Since I’ve moved back home one of my main goals has been has been to save money so that I can move out and on my own again. I have researched, coupon clipped, linked every card I have to reward points and went off brand crazy with my shopping.  One of the areas I cut cost was with laundry soap.

Recently I came across an article about saving money and things you could do to save a buck. One of those things was making your own laundry powder. I’ve heard about it for years and a friend of mine swears by it. She’s always telling me how much money it saves her, her clothes feel better and it doesn’t break her out.  I noticed my kids started breaking out, even with the ” dye free” soaps.  So I decided to give it a try.

It was so easy to make. Washing Soda, Borax, Baking soda, and two bars of Zote Soap finely grated, is all it took to make. I used a big bucket and mixed it all in. I even let the kids help grate up the Zote Soap. It was super easy and we enjoyed the bonding time while grating the soap.

All it takes is about 1/4 cup of the laundry soap to wash a large load. The clothes feel softer, no residue feeling, my kids have stopped breaking out, I’m not itching and it only cost about 15$ to make. It made about 2 gallons or so and it has lasted us well over a month and we still have about 1 and half gallons left!  I love finding a bargain and a healthier option to things! I recommend you try it as well!!!
